When in doubt, scribble.

Sports and politics don't mix.

I didn't get into skating to be famous.

I have two hands. I can hold two medals.

Heck, gold medals, what can you do with them?

I declare the 22nd Olympic Winter Games open.

I have a very close friendship with the skaters.

I'm a speed skater. That's who I am, in my heart.

They're just big in the eyes of the American public.

Immediately after the Olympics, I was pretty fatigued.

When I was skating you had to participate in every thing.

I did not want to be a Champion growing up, just a fast skater.

I'm not a big fan of those who are egotistical and so outspoken.

I mean you got to thank your parents for giving you the right genes.

I’m already happy with who I am. My job is just to get on the podium.

Turn things around sometimes and look at life from a different perspective.

Just because your muscles start to protest, doesn't mean you have to listen.

If you want it and you dream about it...there's nothing that's going to stop you.

It is not the events in our life that define our character, but how we deal with them.

It's easier to limit yourself, but if you do, you will never reach your true potential.

You got to get lucky because it lasts for a week and a lot of things can happen in a week.

It's not a sport you get famous at. If I wanted to be famous, I would have stuck with hockey.

The Canadians have really stepped it up these Olympics. It looks very promising for Vancouver.

Time-wasting activities are the dessert. Oftentimes discoveries are made through the back door.

Whenever I put myself out there on the line, skating against other people, I simply want to win.

We used to lift weights a couple of times a week, we did a lot of running. I enjoyed the variety.

I'm so proud of how well Canada did at the Games here. It think we're going to do even better in 2010.

In general, I enjoy athletes who have a strong character who let their abilities speak for themselves.

We never did a lot of weights, but a lot of repetitions. The most I would use doing squats was 300 pounds.

Turn the paper. A piece looks better if every mark is not made while the surface is in the same orientation.

I think faster and, maybe more importantly, more efficiently. Not only as the game goes on, but as the season goes on.

On today's athletes: I wish I could turn back the clock a little bit so I'd have a chance to cut it up with those guys.

Coming into the Games I knew I was in five events but I didn't expect to get a medal in every distance, especially the 5,000.

It's important to talk about it. You raise awareness. But you can also prevent it (child abuse) by not letting it be a secret.

We're all doing it for the love of the sport. We want to make Canada proud. I'm so fortunate to skate in a country like Canada.

I had the drive to pursue speedskating and I found a sport that I was good at. If I'd got into cycling, I would just be another has been.

Being born and raised in Chicago made me tough. It made me strong. I feel like I can deal with anything. I truly believe that in my heart.

Things haven't changed since I was a young kid. I just wanted to be the fastest guy I could be, and I am still chasing that dream to this day.

I don't think I'll take the medal as the minute and a half of the race I actually won. I'll take it as the last decade of the hard slog I put in.

I developed a sense of maturity when it comes to being dependent upon other people. I don't feel anyone really truly wants me to win more than I do.

I'd rather get a nice warmup suit. That's something I can use. Gold medals just sit there. When I get old, maybe I could sell them if I need the money.

Then going out on the ice usually about 15 minutes before and certain things I would do for the different races, aspects that you run through your mind.

As soon as I was introduced to ice speed skating, I was instantly hooked. I never thought about pursuing skating professionally; I just enjoyed doing it.

There's a lot more pressure when you're a medal favorite. Now, nobody has any expectations for me. Nobody knows what I can do, so I'm riding with nothing to lose.

I would recommend anybody who gets a chance to see short track skating, make it a point to go out there when Apolo is skating because you won't see anybody better.

Being a Christian doesn't mean I don't get stressed or upset when training doesn't go well. But even if I have those reactions, I think, 'I should pray about this.'

No other teammates can help you when you're on the ice by yourself against the clock. So I decided that if I'm going to race on my own, I'm going to train on my own.

It was something I really wanted to do. I can't imagine what it will be like to carry the flag and walk through the doors of the stadium. I'm thrilled to lead the team.

I never dreamed of being a flagbearer. Every athlete has a wish to get to the Olympic Games. I had that wish, but to carry the flag of your country is doubly thrilling.

Cyclists, I work with a number of cyclists. They are great athletes; they are great aerobic athletes. If you ask them to hit a baseball or golf ball, they can't do that.
