Elvis Presley's music said, 'Free your body.' The Beatles said, 'Free your mind.'

Music - it's the only thing that can enter your system, your mind, your heart, without your permission.

As a musician, you are all the music that you absorb into your mind; that just subconsciously connects.

Bear in mind that you are not making music for your own pleasure, but for the pleasure of your audience.

Once you free your mind about a concept of music and harmony being correct, you can do whatever you want.

If you get involved in music expecting to make a living out of it, then you've picked the wrong thing to do. That shouldn't really be in your mind.

The thing I always found about the gospel music was that it reached further into your being if you like, your mind. It takes hold of you - especially if you sing it and play it.

There's nothing that can lock a memory in your mind more distinctly than with a piece of music. It's so easy to remember something so vividly and so perfectly when you score it to something.

Music turned to digital, and suddenly you had the possibility to make things louder than loudest, which boggles the mind but it's true, and what you have are all kinds of different ways of distorting your music.

I feel it's my job to continue being a student of music if I want to continue being an artist and a producer of other artists. You have to keep filling your mind with other music. You have to be ahead of the curve.
