When someone doesn't show up, the people who wait sometimes tell stories about what might have happened and come to half believe the desertion, the abduction, the accident. Worry is a way to pretend that you have knowledge or control over what you don't--and it surprises me, even in myself, how much we prefer ugly scenarios to the pure unknown. I honestly believe, and I've said it many times, that the universal stems from the specific and I can't walk around with a performance and ask everyone how they feel about it, but if noble is an opinion that people have I'll accept that. I believe in goal-setting. I don't care what it is. If you want to drop 10 pounds, increase your bench press, jump higher, or win a Super Bowl, you have to set that goal for yourself before you go out and achieve it. I think you have to regulate it, and see how you're building toward it every single day. Am I getting closer to that ultimate goal? Am I doing everything I possibly can today to be successful?
